ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN

The city of Ann Arbor was founded in 1824 along the Huron River. Supposedly, the city's founder named the city after his wife Ann, while 'Arbor' may describe the oak trees and thick vegetation common in this area.

As you stroll down Liberty or State, you will find a variety of restaurants, theaters, unique shops, cafes, bookstores with rare and out-of-print books, and the University's central campus. Malls and major department and grocery stores are conveniently located in and around the city.

There are many sights to see on the University of Michigan campus and in its surrounding areas including the arboretum, gardens, interesting architecture, and special events.

Here are just some of the places to visit while in Ann Arbor: Hands-On Museum, Ann Arbor Art Center, Gallup Park (canoeing, picnics, nature walks), Cobblestone Farm, Kempf House for Local History (museum), Matthaei Botanical Gardens (beautiful conservatory with tropical plants, including orchids, bromeliads, and birds native to Michigan), Leslie Science Center, Wing Farms Giant Pumpkins, University of Michigan Museum of Art, Michigan Stadium, Nichols Arboretum, Farmer's Market, and Argo Dam on the Huron River.
